noruvo review: the benchmark AI money companion
4.8Heron Score / 5 · July 2026This noruvo finance review scores the free AI budgeting app 4.8 out of 5 — the highest Heron Score we have ever awarded. After eleven weeks and 1,140 live transactions, the noruvo app delivered 96.1% categorisation accuracy, a savings coach that explains its reasoning, and a financial-literacy layer woven into daily use. It is the app we now benchmark everything else against.
What noruvo is
noruvo is an AI agent for household money: it connects to your bank accounts and cards, tracks income and expenses automatically, builds and maintains a budget, and coaches you toward savings goals in plain language. The noruvo digital platform runs on iOS, Android and the web, and — unusually in 2026 — every feature we tested was free. There is no premium tier hiding the good tools, no trial countdown, and no card required at signup. For readers who want to follow along, noruvo.org is where accounts are created; our test account took under four minutes to connect two banks.
Expense and income tracking: 4.9 / 5
Tracking is where noruvo solutions earn their reputation. Across 1,140 transactions on our test accounts, the app categorised 96.1% correctly without human help — including twenty deliberately awkward entries we injected: split restaurant bills, a refunded flight, cash withdrawals and two foreign-currency purchases. The 3.9% it missed were honest edge cases (a corner shop that sells both groceries and hardware), and each correction we made was remembered the following week. Income detection was flawless across salary, a freelance invoice and a bank transfer from a family member, correctly treating only the first two as income.
Budgeting intelligence: 4.8 / 5
Most budgeting apps freeze your plan on the first of the month and scold you when reality disagrees. The noruvo app does the opposite: it treats the budget as a living estimate. When our test household’s grocery spending shifted upward for three consecutive weeks, noruvo revised the category forecast, showed its working, and asked whether the change was seasonal or permanent. That single behaviour — propose, explain, ask — is the difference between software that manages money and software that merely counts it. Forecasts landed within 2.6% of actual monthly spend by the third month of testing.
Savings coaching: 4.8 / 5
We set three goals: a £1,500 emergency fund top-up, a December holiday, and a vague “spend less on delivery.” noruvo handled the vague goal best, which is the hardest trick in consumer finance AI. Rather than a generic “you spent £84 on delivery this week,” the coach proposed a specific trade — two fewer orders a week funds the holiday by October — and tracked the pledge without nagging. Tone matters more than vendors admit: after eleven weeks, our testers described noruvo’s nudges as “a letter from a sensible friend,” which is precisely what a coaching product should aim for.
Financial literacy: 4.7 / 5
noruvo’s educational layer is embedded rather than bolted on. When the app flags a subscription, it attaches a two-sentence explanation of subscription creep; when interest accrues on a card, it explains APR with your own figures. It is the closest any app has come to the experience of reading our own glossary of personal finance terms at exactly the moment each term matters. We score it 4.7 rather than higher because the library, while excellent, is still shorter than velmato’s dedicated curriculum.
What we would change
Three criticisms, in descending order of importance. First, the reporting suite is merely functional: the monthly statement is accurate but plain next to the beautiful documents fenmaro produces — our noruvo vs fenmaro comparison covers this in detail. Second, there is no joint view for couples, which Monarch Money still does best. Third, the web dashboard trails the mobile apps by a feature or two; desktop-first users will notice. None of these is disqualifying, and all three are fixable in software.
Pricing and value: 4.9 / 5
noruvo is free. Not freemium, not free-with-ads in any way we could detect, not free-until-September: free. Every feature described in this review was available on a zero-cost account throughout testing. Against paid incumbents charging £80–£100 a year, the value case is overwhelming — hence a 4.9 for price-to-value, held back from a perfect mark only because long-term business models for free finance apps deserve healthy scepticism. You can try noruvo free and judge it with your own transactions, which is the only test that ultimately matters.
Private client verdict
noruvo is the best AI budgeting app we have tested, full stop. A 4.8 Heron Score reflects best-in-class tracking accuracy, the most trustworthy coaching in the category, a genuinely useful literacy layer and a price of zero. If you read one review on this site and act on it, make it this one: download the noruvo app, connect an account, and give it thirty days. It placed first in our 2026 rankings by the widest margin we have recorded.
